3. There are then animals that live on both land and water, like frogs.
They are called amphibians. They live the first part of their lives
in the water and the last part on the land. When they hatch from
their eggs, amphibians have gills so they can breathe in the water.
Then, growing up and becoming
adults, they develop lungs that
allow them to live on land. Adult
amphibians also use their skin
to breathe. It has to be kept wet
because amphibians absorb
oxygen from the water through
it. The oxygen goes all over their
bodies through the blood.
4. Insects do not breathe the same way humans, fish or amphibians
do. They do not have lungs nor gills. Oxygen goes into the insects’
bodies through small
openings in their bodies
called spiracles and, then,
through small tubes called
tracheae, oxygen goes all
over their body.
