How Animals Reproduce

Riprendiamo con gli alunni le caratteristiche dei living things e richia-

miamo la loro attenzione su come si riproducono. Partiamo come
sempre dalle loro esperienze personali e chiediamo:
Do you have any younger brothers or sisters? Do you remember

when they were born?

Do human mums lay eggs? (No, they give birth to a baby)

What about your pets? Think about dogs or cats. Do they lay eggs
4
or give birth to puppies and kittens?

Do you know any animals that lay eggs? (Hens, birds, ducks,

crocodiles…)
Do you know any animals that keep eggs inside their body until the
4
babies hatch?

Guidiamo gli interventi dei bambini, poi, per verificare le loro risposte,

mostriamo il video reperibile al link https://youtu.be/mEY8-I2L6gQ
(proponiamo il breve test finale interrompendo il filmato e lasciando
agli alunni del tempo per riflettere prima di svelare la soluzione). Al

termine, chiediamo ai bambini se le idee emerse in precedenza sono

corrette o se hanno cambiato opinione. Poi, raccogliamo e riassu-
miamo le informazioni principali.
Animals can reproduce in three different ways:

1. giving birth to a newborn baby viviparous;

2. laying eggs oviparous;
3. keeping the eggs inside the mum’s body and then giving birth
ovoviviparous.

In seguito, consegniamo a ogni alunno una tabella (scaricabile dal

sito mygulliver.it, Nuovo Gulliver News a.s. 2021-22) per approfon-
dire le caratteristiche di ciascuno dei tre gruppi analizzati e leggia-
mola insieme. Per riassumere le conoscenze apprese realizziamo

con gli alunni un tree diagram (un esempio è scaricabile dal sito

mygulliver.it, Nuovo Gulliver News a.s. 2021-22).
