1. Humans and other animals need to breathe but they do it in
different ways. Human beings and most of the land animals breathe
through lungs. They take in the air through the nose and the
mouth. The air reaches the
Nasal cavity
lungs flowing through the
wind pipe (trachea). In the
Trachea lungs delicate blood vessels
extract oxygen from the air. The
blood transports the oxygen
all over the body and collects
the carbon dioxide, which is
Lungs
transported out of the body
when animals breathe out.
Quindi, diciamo:
Try to make a list of animals that breathe through lungs. Can you
4
find animals that live in the water but breathe through lungs?
(Dolphins, whales…)
Poi, consegniamo la seconda parte del testo e proseguiamo la lettura.
2. Fish and other water animals breathe air dissolved in water. They
can do that through gills which are full of blood vessels. They take
in water through their
mouths. The water passes
through the gills where the
oxygen dissolved in the
water is absorbed and goes
all over their body thanks to
the blood. The gills give out
carbon dioxide into the
water.
